Jamarius Joshua Woods Obituary, Death: 19-Year-Old Shelby Man Killed in Shooting as Police Investigate Fatal Green Oak Drive Incident

Shelby, North Carolina — The Shelby community is mourning the death of Jamarius Joshua Woods, a 19-year-old local man who was fatally shot Friday evening, September 18, 2026.

Shelby Police officers responded at approximately 8:09 p.m. to the 2100 block of Green Oak Drive after receiving reports that a person had been shot. When officers arrived, they found Woods lying in a driveway with a single gunshot wound.

Officers and emergency medical personnel from Cleveland County EMS and Shelby Fire & Rescue attempted lifesaving measures at the scene. Woods, however, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Police later encountered a person matching the description of the suspected shooter approximately half a mile from the location. The individual was taken into custody without incident and was subsequently identified as 19-year-old Kobe Deshawn Flack, also of Shelby. Investigators charged Flack with first-degree murder in connection with Woods’ death.

The charge is an allegation, and Flack is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Authorities said the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident and that there was no ongoing threat to the public connected with the case. The Shelby Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Team continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

For Woods’ family, friends and others who knew him, his death marks a sudden and painful loss. At just 19, his life was cut short, leaving those closest to him to grieve while investigators work to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
