Manteca Shooting: One Injured, Suspect Arrested in Stockton

Manteca, California — A man was critically injured in a shooting in Manteca on Tuesday afternoon, September 22, 2026, and police later arrested a suspected shooter in Stockton, authorities said.

Manteca police responded around 12:43 p.m. to the 200 block of North Union Road after receiving reports that a vehicle had driven into a park near the Manteca Park Golf Course and may have been involved in a collision. Officers did not find evidence of a crash but discovered a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and a firearm in the street.

Investigators determined that the incident began with an altercation between two men inside a vehicle. According to police, one man allegedly shot the other before fleeing the area in the vehicle and leaving the injured man behind.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. Authorities have not released his identity or provided a public update on his condition.

Investigators used witness information, surveillance footage, Flock technology and automated license-plate readers in Manteca and Stockton to track the suspect. Police said the man was located and taken into custody in Stockton approximately 45 minutes after the shooting.

The suspect’s name has not been publicly released, and authorities have not announced specific charges in the latest reports. Police said the investigation remains active and that details are limited.
