Jonathan Tann, a 49-year-old Truro city councillor and father of three, has died suddenly, prompting tributes from colleagues, friends and members of the Cornish community.

Tann died on Friday, September 18, 2026, according to local reports and a statement from Truro City Council. He represented the Moresk and Trehaverne ward and had been elected to the council in May 2025. His death was described by the council as a profound shock.

Alongside his work in local government, Tann ran a building consultancy business and was described as a well-known figure in Truro. During his time on the council, he contributed to several committees, including Parks and Amenities, Planning and Licensing, and the Bonfire and Fireworks Event Working Group.

Tann was also a father of three. A family fundraiser identifies his partner as Sharon and his children as Ben, Isla and Georgie. The campaign describes him as a larger-than-life personality with a generous nature who was always willing to help others. Funds are being raised to provide financial support for his family following his sudden death.

Tributes have come from fellow councillors and community members. Truro Mayor Chris Wells said Tann’s experience had been valued in council discussions and that he would be greatly missed. The St Piran flag at Truro City Hall is being flown at half-mast as a mark of respect and will also be lowered on the day of his funeral. The council has not publicly disclosed the cause of Tann’s death or released funeral details.
