Kyle Elardo, a 27-year-old man from Suffolk County, New York, has died following a fatal hit-and-run crash on State Route 903 in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County, Pennsylvania. His death was confirmed by the Carbon County Coroner’s Office as investigators continue working to identify the driver who left the scene.
Pennsylvania State Police were called to Route 903 near Church Road at approximately 11:32 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, after reports of a person in the northbound lane. Authorities determined that Elardo had been operating an all-terrain vehicle and, for reasons still under investigation, had fallen from the ATV and remained in the roadway.
Police said the ATV came to a controlled stop off the right side of the road and did not appear to have sustained damage. Elardo was subsequently struck by another vehicle, whose driver failed to stop and fled the area. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after midnight Friday.
Investigators believe the vehicle involved was a white Subaru sedan with possible damage to the front driver-side fender. Authorities have released information about the vehicle as they appeal for witnesses and anyone with relevant footage or information to come forward.
An autopsy is scheduled for September 21 at the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensics Center. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating alongside the Carbon County Coroner’s Office, forensic specialists and crash reconstruction investigators.
