Marissa Marie Gonzalez Obituary, Death: Hampton Mourns 21-Year-Old Mother-to-Be After U.S. 460 Crash

Hampton, Virginia — Marissa Marie Gonzalez, a 21-year-old Hampton woman remembered by family and friends for her warmth and plans for the future, died after a head-on collision on U.S. 460 in Southampton County. She was five months pregnant with a baby boy.

The crash occurred on February 20, 2026, near Drews Avenue, close to the Sussex County line. According to the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, two sedans collided head-on at approximately 4:40 p.m. Three people were involved in the crash. Gonzalez was a passenger in one of the vehicles and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Both drivers suffered serious injuries and were taken for medical treatment. Gonzalez’s fiancé, Brandon Clark, was among those seriously injured and remained in critical condition at the time of the family’s public updates.

Beyond the circumstances of the collision, Gonzalez was remembered as a young woman preparing for an important new chapter. She had recently earned an associate degree from Virginia Peninsula Community College and planned to continue her education at Old Dominion University, with the goal of becoming an elementary school teacher.

Family and friends also spoke about her love of animals, the beach and her dog Luna. Her father, Phelan M. Gonzalez, shared memories of his daughter and her excitement about becoming a mother.

Her death also meant the loss of her unborn son, a tragedy that deepened the grief for relatives and friends. A GoFundMe campaign established with the family’s approval helped raise money toward funeral and memorial expenses.

Marissa was remembered by those who knew her as kind, dedicated and full of life. Friends and former colleagues described her as someone whose smile and warmth made a lasting impression.

Her death has left family and friends mourning both the young woman she was and the future she had been preparing to build with her child.
