Hunter Nadeau Sky Meadow Country Club Shooting Case, Nashua New Hampshire: Charges Continue After Deadly 2025 Shooting

The criminal case against Hunter Nadeau continues nearly one year after a deadly shooting at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, New Hampshire, that left one person dead and two others wounded.

Nadeau, a former Sky Meadow employee, is accused of opening fire inside the club’s restaurant on September 20, 2025. Robert Steven DeCesare, 59, was killed while dining with his wife and daughter. Two other people, including restaurant employee Steve Burtman and patron Brianna Surette, were also shot and survived.

A Hillsborough County grand jury later returned indictments charging Nadeau with alternative counts of purposeful first-degree murder and reckless second-degree murder in DeCesare’s death. He also faces two counts of attempted murder and two counts of first-degree assault.

Court records unsealed in 2026 provided additional information about the investigation. Police said Nadeau told investigators that he initially had an urge to kill himself before deciding to target wealthy people. He had previously worked as a server at Sky Meadow and reportedly told investigators that he selected the club because of its wealthy clientele. These statements are contained in the police affidavit and are allegations concerning his conduct and motivation.

The case has now entered a significant new phase. On September 14, 2026, Nadeau’s attorneys filed notice that they intend to argue that he was not criminally responsible because of a mental disease or defect at the time of the shooting.

Nadeau remains in custody without bail. Jury selection is currently scheduled for June 2027, although court proceedings could change that timetable.

The charges against Nadeau remain allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. The case is expected to remain closely watched as prosecutors and defense attorneys prepare for trial and litigate the planned insanity defense.
