Julmice Belone, 34, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has died following a shooting in Lauderdale Lakes that left another man injured. Belone was transported to a local hospital after the incident but was later pronounced dead, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called at approximately 3:28 a.m. Sunday, September 20, after reports of a shooting near the 3100 block of Northwest 37th Street in Lauderdale Lakes. When deputies arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound and provided assistance before he was taken to a hospital. A second victim, later identified as Belone, had made his own way to a hospital, where he died.

According to investigators, the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation at a house party. A third person involved in the confrontation reportedly told detectives that he had attempted to de-escalate the situation and that the shooting occurred in self-defense. That individual also suffered minor injuries.

The person identified by investigators as the shooter remained at the scene and was detained for questioning. Authorities later released that person. The Broward Sheriff’s Office has not announced criminal charges in connection with the shooting as the investigation remains active.

Detectives from the Broward Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene and Homicide units are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. Once the investigation is completed, authorities said the case will be presented to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office for review.

Belone’s death has left relatives, friends and others mourning a life cut short at 34.
